Are you a free man?
Every candidate must be a free man and in reputable circumstances.

Are you at least 18 years old ?
You have to be at least 18 years old to join freemasonry (if 18yrs you must have finally ceased full time secondary education or training). Undergraduates and other university members can enjoy Freemasonry through the Universities Scheme.

Do you believe in a supreme being?
You must believe in a supreme being to be a Freemason. We won’t ask about religion, that is personal to you.

Do you have criminal convictions?
To join you must be of good character with no criminal convictions. If you’re not sure what counts and what doesn’t, ask us.

Can you commit to it?
The number of meetings per year varies from lodge to lodge, but you might expect at least six full meetings per year, together with two, three or four less formal rehearsal, learning and social meetings a month. Health warning: Freemasonry can become addictive and many Freemasons belong to several lodges or additional masonic orders.

Can you afford it?
Whilst not disproportionately expensive, there is a cost to Freemasonry (Joining fee. regular lodge subscription, dining fee, regalia) and it is important that you factor that into your consideration. Whilst each lodge differs in cost, you should anticipate paying somewhere in the region of £200 to £250 per year (there will also be a cost to dining after a meeting).

MEET.
As part of the process you will want to meet and talk to Freemasons from one of the Lodges who meet at the Uckfield Masonic Centre. Our team will also want to meet with you and discuss your interest and give you all the information you need to make a decision. There is a process for this which will be made clear to you, but rest assured it is friendly and informative.
JOIN.
That’s it. You’ve asked, met, and been met. Now you have joined one of the world’s most ancient and illustrious, fraternal, charitable organisations. Congratulations; you are a Sussex Freemason.
